There is a rich diversity
of museums in the Alpes de Haute-Provence. They tell the
story of this land between Alps and Provence, at the same
time welcoming and affected by all the various influences.
The Romans chose it as one of their favoured areas. You
will find evidence of this in the museums at Vachères
and Riez.
As time passed people gradually developed a way of life
in symbiosis with their environment. The Haute-Provence
Ethnological Conservatory at Manosque near Forcalquier
and the Ubaye valley museum at Barcelonnette tell you
their story.
Artists, writers and adventurers have fallen for our land.
You can find out about them at the Jean Giono Foundation,
the Alexandra David-Neel Museum and the Museum at Digne.
If you want to understand how our landscapes were formed,
visit the open air museum (Musée-Promenade) at
Digne-les-Bains or the museums on the sites of the Haute-Provence
Geological Reserve. |
