Green tourism for everybody. The first farmhouse gîte in France opened in 1951 at La Javie near Digne-les-Bains, run by Denise and Lucien Roche.

What was then an innovative idea has now become a tremendous success. Today, more than 650 farmhouse gîtes, 250 guest-houses, 50 hiking gîtes and 25 farmhouse campsites display the Gîtes de France sign in the Alpes de Haute-Provence.
